Before your appointment
Start your application in the myCASA Medical Records System (MRS) and bring your application number.
Bring photo ID, your current medical certificate and a full list of your medications.
Bring your glasses or contact lenses, plus a spare pair if you wear them.
Bring any recent specialist reports or test results relevant to a medical condition.
Assessments generally take 45 minutes to one hour. Allow extra time if you need an ECG or hearing test.
Common questions
What happens if I don't meet the standard on the day?
It doesn't necessarily mean you can't fly. Some applications need to be referred to CASA for assessment, often with supporting reports from your specialist or further tests. Certificates may also be issued with conditions. I'll talk you through the next steps and what CASA is likely to need.
Do I need an ECG or hearing test?
It depends on your certificate class and age. If you need one, I'll let you know when you book, and both can usually be done at your appointment.
Can I keep flying while a health issue is being assessed?
If you develop a medical condition or start a new medication that could affect your ability to fly safely, you may need to stop flying until it's assessed. If you're unsure, contact me or CASA before your next flight.
What's the difference between Basic Class 2 and Class 2?
Basic Class 2 is assessed against a commercial driver's licence medical standard and suits private pilots flying within certain limits on aircraft size, passenger numbers and type of operation. Class 2 has a broader scope but a more detailed assessment. CASA's website lists the current conditions for each.
Can I get my pathology done beforehand?
Yes. If you need blood tests before your medical, email me at info@drrobinwei.com.au and I can arrange a pathology form.
